Taxi Transfers To and From Dubrovnik Airport

Once landed at Dubrovnik Airport (DBV), please remember to pick up your luggage from the baggage claim area before moving exiting the arrivals area and entering landside. A transfer is necessary to reach the final destination of the journey and at DBV there are several options to choose from including rental cars, buses, and taxis.

The airport is located approximately 20 km/12.5 mi southeast of the center of Dubrovnik in southern Croatia. State road D8 connects the two locations.

Taxis at Dubrovnik Airport

Taxi cabs are servicing the airport during its opening hours. The taxi ranks are located in front of the airport terminal’s Building B which houses both the Domestic and the International Arrivals areas.

Taxi drivers are required to issue an invoice upon the customer’s request. The request does not have to be displayed in advance of the ride, but it is always a good idea to do so in all instances an invoice is needed.

The journey from the airport to Dubrovnik’s city center will take around 30 minutes, but in heavy traffic, which can occur during rush hour and during high season, it may take up to an hour, and occasionally beyond. How long the journey will take will of course also depend on where the exact location of the destination is compared to the airport.

The taxi fare from Dubrovnik Airport to Dubrovnik will cost around 40-50 € /300-400 HRK, but fares do change and vary. Before getting in a taxi cab take a look at the fares posted inside the terminal so you have an idea.

While the euro (€) is widely accepted in Croatia not all instances accept it as the official currency of Croatia is Croatian Kuna (HRK). Taxi cabs and other instances might also accept credit cards, but it is wise to have cash at hand in case they don’t.

A number of companies are offering their taxi or transfer services at Dubrovnik Airport. They come with a variation of what vehicles and fares they are offering so make sure to research it properly before deciding on the one you want to go with.

Rideshare at Dubrovnik Airport

Uber is a rideshare company that is available at Dubrovnik Airport. To order a transfer through them one has to download their smartphone application and enter their information there. This is usually a cheaper option than the regular taxi, but it might not feel as safe as the regular and official taxi alternative does.

Other Transfer Options at Dubrovnik Airport

As mentioned at the top there are also rental cars available at DBV. There are quite a large number of car rental companies that are offering their services at the airport. It is usually recommended to book your desired rental vehicle through your preferred vendor in advance so you know it is available and ready upon your arrival at the airport. While walk-ups might be available there are never any guarantees a preferred vehicle is free and the wait to get a vehicle fully ready might also be expected without an advance booking.

When renting a vehicle it is important to make sure you have all required documents and meet all the requirements. Always check the vehicle for any pre-existing damages before driving off. If any damages are found that are not documented make sure the car hire company makes a note about it so you don’t get the blame and get to pay for the damage. This is a good habit when renting vehicles. Likewise it is good to make sure there are no damages on the vehicle when returning it and of course to make sure all personal belongings are retrieved from the vehicle before handing it back to the vendor.

Another option of transfer is the bus. There are official shuttle buses operating at the airport, available for transfer to Dubrovnik. They run several times a day, often in connection with arriving flights. There are also public bus routes that service the airport, to several locations in Dubrovnik. Schedules vary.
